U.S Figure Skating Basic Skills Learn to Skate Group Classes
The Basic Skills Program is designed by U.S. Figure Skating to be the best beginning ice skating program that serves the needs of both the recreational and competitive skater. The curriculum is designed to keep skaters enthusiastic about learning from the time they begin lessons until the time they reach their goals. Whether their goal is to achieve Olympic fame or simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, the Basic Skills Program is the place to start.
This exciting program consists of Snowplow Sam, Basic Skills, Free Skate, Ice Hockey, Adult, Dance, Synchronized, Pairs, Theatre On Ice, Artistry in Motion, Speed Skating and Special Olympics group class curricula. Upon completion of each level, the skater should be equipped with the necessary knowledge and technique to advance to the next level.
We offer 60-minute group classes on ice with a professional coach. Each class is geared toward age and skill level.

Snow Plow Sam (ages 3-5) is the place to start for all skaters - ice hockey, speed and figure. 3 levels are designed to allow preschool children to become comfortable on the ice, while developing preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice. This course develops balance, body movement and working with others. Children are encouraged to play and progress at their own level. Helmets are mandatory for SnowPlow Sam skaters.
Basic Skills Learn to Skate (5-adult) program teaches skills and fundamentals to all ice skating sports. The six levels of this program introduce the fundamental moves – forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, turns, and mohawks. Upon completion of the 6 levels, skaters will have the basic knowledge of the sport enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating including Free Skating (jumps, spins, footwork) and Moves-in-the-Field (patterns of turns, edges and power stroking).
Ice Hockey Learn to Skate is designed to teach the fundamentals of ice hockey skating. In 4 badge levels, skaters will learn to maneuver faster and be more agile on the ice. All elements will be taught without a stick or puck as proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the levels. Skaters will learn the necessary fundamentals to be successful in game situations. Skills are tested and badges are awarded when a skater demonstrates mastery of the skills required at each level. Evaluations can be performed as needed but official evaluation days will be at the end of each 12 week semester.
Figure Skating - Pre-Competitive and Competitive
The Pre-Competitive Program is designed for young skater’s who want to be introduced to the world of competitive figure skating. A stepping stone to the competitive stream; It’s the in between stage from a one day a week recreational skater to a skater who is ready to face competition. This program involves 2-3 days a week of skating, 1-2 days of off-ice training and entry level competitions.
The Competitive Program is an intensive program for skaters who are dedicated to succeeding; the competitive program is the graduate program from the pre-competitive program. The student must be able to land a single loop jump, prepared to work on doubles and triples. Skaters entering the program start by continuing to establish superior foundation skills, and work towards triple jumps at international levels. In the School's competitive stream, students commit to competitions throughout the year and a higher weekly commitment is required from students and parents alike. This program comprises 2-5 days on the ice (depending on level), 2 days of off ice training, independent instruction and approximately 3-5 competitions per year.
